my first view of myself teaching! Yikes!

Ok,
So I have just viewed myself teaching. How scary and weird is that!
First thing I noticed is that I am a shuffler. I tend to move around and sway while standing in front of the class. Now I do not know if that is necessarily a bad thing or not, but still was very surprising to see.
Also, I know that this was a class about explaining the course, but I talked too much. Maybe I could let the students do more talking. Will try to work on that.

  1. I'm going to take a video today. Now I'm worried about posture and all that!

  2. Right on, Matt! Some colleagues have gotten me in the habit of creating 'reading safari questions' for the course syllabus and textbook. Ss answer the questions for themselves in pairs or threes, then we TSST the answers as a whole around the class. This helps me talk less, and helps them interact more (in complete sentences -- so their proficiency is being developed).

That said -- please use the Richards and Lockhart questions to help you focus more, process more, and learn more about your teaching in the weeks ahead, Ok?
